I like to do different things and, as my career evolves, I will choose roles to do things that I haven’t done before. So, I wouldn’t say that I’m done with it. You have to step out of your comfort zone and try different things, and sometimes you fail at it, but you have to try things to figure out what works. She wants to do things outside of her comfort zone, which I think we all have to do, at certain points, to advance as human beings. It was like, “Wow, look, I’m a Baywatch babe!” The character in The Layover is very conservative, nervous and anxious, which I think is actually closer to who I am than a Baywatch babe. In Baywatch, it’s part of the joke, but at the same time, it’s also just fun. It was done to shockingly show you the philandering nature of Woody Harrelson’s character, when you thought he was a good guy. In True Detective, the scene that I did naked was done for a point. It wasn’t something that I tried to do, so I embrace it, to a certain extent, especially when it’s part of the joke, which it was in Baywatch. It’s not something that I ever expected to happen for me. Are you at the point where you’d be happy to never have to do that again?ĭADDARIO: I have a pretty good sense of humor about it. It seems as though you can’t get away from wearing a bathing suit in the movies you do. I wouldn’t call myself a comedian, but it’s cool to be in a comedy. But it was a really supportive environment, to try all kinds of things. It’s an uncomfortable thing to do, to pretend to pee on camera, and then fall out of a window and get covered in shit. The bathroom scene made me a little bit nervous. But, I think it was shot exactly how it should have been shot. It’s more about how it’s going to turn out. It’s not that I’m nervous about doing them, at this stage in my life. I always get nervous about sex scenes, in a way. ![]() ![]() I was very excited about working with William H. Was there anything you were most excited about and most nervous about, with what you’d have to do for this film?ĭADDARIO: I really wanted to do a comedy. We went out and had fun together, and I think that shows on screen. You have to have really good chemistry, and that worked really well. We all got along really well, which I think is the key to this film. I don’t want to speak for him, but I would assume that, even if you worry about it, you have to just do it. Bill has done so much work and he knows that, I’m assuming. for eight years and I’ve been acting professionally for a long time, and you realize that you have to prepare and work hard, but you never know what could go wrong. With so many layers to this film and what was required of you, in this role, at least you were in great hands because so many things could have gone wrong.ĭADDARIO: But so many things could go wrong, on any film. He is Bill Macy, and he’ll be Bill Macy, no matter what, so it created this environment where we just were having a lot of fun and it was a safe, supportive environment. A lot of what happens in this business is that you over worry, and it was really cool to just work with someone who was like, “You sound great! Come on, let’s do it!” He didn’t over think it, and that’s how he was on set, too. He’s been in this business for so long that I think the fear doesn’t exist. The Skype wasn’t working and he said, “I’ll just call you.” He called and we talked on the phone and, within 10 minutes, he was like, “Can you get on a plane tomorrow?” It’s incredible to work with a director like that. So, I had a Skype meeting with Bill, and it’s the only time, ever in my career, that I’ve been offered a job on the spot. They had another actress attached, and I think the actress fell out and they were starting to shoot the next week. Macy in the director’s chair the draw for you?ĪLEXANDRA DADDARIO: It was right before San Andreas came out. She also talked about how she decides what project to do next, how True Detective was a career turning point for her, her upcoming films, whether San Andreas 2 might ever happen.Ĭollider: How did you come to this? Did you just get the script and respond to the material, or was William H. Macy, her excitement and nerves over doing a comedy, keeping a sense of humor about having to wear a bathing suit on camera, and how natural the relationship between her and Kate Upton was. While they’re stuck and at the mercy of the weather, best friends Kate ( Alexandra Daddario) and Meg ( Kate Upton) find themselves willing to go to crazy lengths as they compete for the same guy ( Matt Barr).Īt the Los Angeles press day for the film, actress Alexandra Daddario sat down with Collider for this 1-on-1 interview about what attracted her to the project, how quickly she got involved with the film, the experience of working with William H. Macy, the comedy The Layover shows what can happen when a plane is re-routed from Florida due to a hurricane warning, stranding its passengers in St.

![]() These ships were considered to be "general purpose" ships, mainly used for fishing and trade, but occasionally commissioned for military use. A ship with 6 to 16 benches would be classified as a Karvi. According to the tenth-century Gulating Law, a ship with 13 rowing benches is the smallest ship suitable for military use. The Karvi (or karve) is the smallest vessel that is considered a longship. The most common way to classify longships is by the number of rowing positions on board. Longships can be classified into a number of different types, depending on size, construction details, and prestige. The Norse had a strong sense of naval architecture, and during the early medieval period they were advanced for their time. They were called "dragonships" by enemies such as the English because they had a dragon-shaped bow. In the same year, 129 ships returned to attack up the Seine. Quentovic, near modern Étaples, was attacked in 842 and 600 Danish ships attacked Hamburg in 845. Rouen was sacked in 841, the year after the death of Louis the Pious, a son of Charlemagne. During the ninth century peak of the Viking expansion, large fleets set out to attack the degrading Frankish empire by attacking up navigable rivers such as the Seine. In the tenth century, longships would sometimes be tied together in offshore battles to form a steady platform for infantry warfare. While longships were used by the Norse in warfare, they were mostly used as troop transports, not warships. They were often communally owned by coastal farmers or commissioned by kings in times of conflict, in order to quickly assemble a large and powerful naval force. Moreover, each Viking longship had particular features adjusted to the natural conditions under which it was sailed. For example, the choice of material was mostly dictated by the regional forests, such as pine from Norway and Sweden, and oak from Denmark. Ships varied from designer to designer and place to place, and often had regional characteristics. Archaeological finds show that the Viking ships were not standardized. The Viking longships were powerful naval weapons in their time and were highly valued possessions. The longships dimensions are 20-30m in length 4-8m in width 3-4m in airdraft and the mast measures in at 15-30m One longship in particular can be seen in Oslo, Norway in The Viking Ship museum. The average speed of Viking ships varied from ship to ship, but lay in the range of 5–10 knots (9.3–18.5 km/h) and the maximum speed of a longship under favourable conditions was around 15 knots (28 km/h). Later versions had a rectangular sail on a single mast, which was used to replace or augment the effort of the rowers, particularly during long journeys. Longships were fitted with oars along almost the entire length of the boat itself. Longships were also double-ended, the symmetrical bow and stern allowing the ship to reverse direction quickly without a turn around this trait proved particularly useful at northern latitudes, where icebergs and sea ice posed hazards to navigation. The ship's shallow draft allowed navigation in waters only one meter deep and permitted arbitrary beach landings, while its light weight enabled it to be carried over portages or used bottom-up for shelter in camps. The longships were characterized as graceful, long, narrow and light, with a shallow- draft hull designed for speed. They were all made out of wood, with cloth sails (woven wool) and had several details and carvings on the hull. The particular skills and methods employed in making longships are still used worldwide, often with modern adaptations. The character and appearance of these ships have been reflected in Scandinavian boat-building traditions to the present day. The longship appeared in its complete form between the ninth and 13th centuries. The longship's design evolved over many centuries, and continuing up until the sixth century with clinker-built ships like Nydam and Kvalsund. Originally invented and used by the Norsemen (commonly known as the Vikings) for commerce, exploration, and warfare during the Viking Age, many of the longship's characteristics were adopted by other cultures, like Anglo-Saxons, and continued to influence shipbuilding for centuries. Longships were a type of specialised Scandinavian warships that have a long history in Scandinavia, with their existence being archaeologically proven and documented from at least the fourth century BC. They were not always equipped with shields. ![]() Or you can copy your DVD movie into an ISO image and then burn the ISO image to a new blank DVD. Then you can easily go through the above steps. ![]() It's really up to you as the designer to find something that works well with the terrain and layout that you're given. Some have questioned the use of mods, but I can assure you that the regional freeway mod is available for use in online games and won't cause any rollbacks or crashes.Įvery city entrance I do tends to be different than the last. These days I've just been using Skye's Regional Freeway mod to add additional entrances on each side of the map. Both scenarios work well.ġ2/9/14 Update: The more I've built these cities, the less I've been using the oil well service road. This makes it a "Trade Truck Only" entrance. This allows for the trade trucks to enter and exit the city quickly while forcing any traffic backup to occur underground.Īnother method which works well is to build an additional entrance with Skye's Regional Freeway mod and have it connect to your road network with only an oil well service road. I like to have an oil well service road tee off of the main entrance near the edge of the map and then have the regular traffic tunnel across the map to the other side. If you don't have it, download the Oil Well Service Road Mod. This can be done through creative use of oil well service roads which trade trucks can use, but regular traffic will stay away from ( as mentioned in Tip #1 on the Trade Secrets page). One way to accomplish this is to separate trade truck traffic from regular traffic at the city entrance. One of the keys to maximizing the output of a manufacturing farm is to have excellent traffic flow. If your city is manufacturing PCs, you'll also need to have an Electronics Headquarter with Consumer Electronics Division.ĮXAMPLE OF BAD DESIGN: This electronic farm had traffic issues due to the streets not being perpendicular to the side with the trade ports. It should be noted that smelting farms require a lot more sewer and water than processor, TV or PC farms. The goal is to have as many factories as possible, so I suggest having sewer, water and power all provided by an adjacent support city. It's important to have the streets run perpendicular to the trade ports because it allows for good distribution of trade truck traffic from the ports to the factories. I'm not a big fan of megatowers so I usually use traditional housing, but I've seen others have great success with them. You can use either traditional housing or megatowers. ![]() The residential is squeezed into one corner, the trade ports are along one side and the majority of the map is factories. In this post I'm going to talk about how I set up these cities to maximize their money making potential.Ī smelting farm can be incredibly fun to build, and profitable!Īlthough every city is different based on wind direction, city entrance and terrain, I've found the ideal layout to be something like what is shown in the photo below.
